Any time is good to review your plan and individual goals, check the direction of where you are heading, and perhaps adjust your sails. But if such a big event as changing the year – the New Year – gives you the extra kick of motivation to actually do it THEN WHY NOT USE IT!
You may have your perfect way of New Year planning however what I wanted to show you is how I do it. Maybe you will find parts of it that could also work for you. I start from the top and work my way down, this is actually quite exciting if you think that to achieve from point 1 you need to follow your plan from point 5 and this has a big chance of working out. Think of it as ‘building’ an enormous wedding cake, you start from the base and then add a cherry on top once the foundations are built.
- Decide what you want the New Year 2018 to be about, this is the main goal, cherry on top 😉
- Have quarterly goals, what is it that you want to achieve every 3 months so 2018 heads into the direction from point 1? Have a review point end of March, June, September and December. Add a small celebration for every quarterly achievement, perhaps travel to Paris?
- Have monthly goal that you want to focus on, there will be 12 of these 😛 You can have a blueprint in December for all 12 goals and commit to the goal at the start of each month (this will allow you to change it or continue with the same goal for more than 1 month). Review how you did the previous month, what can you improve to reach the quarterly. It doesn’t have to be complicated, just specific and leading you into chosen direction. Those monthly goals will be the ones that will help you succeed, not the main goal. The main goal, cherry on top, may be a bit overwhelming on its own!
This can be it, however I also add strong cake base and do step 4:
4. Work on self improvement daily. I chose 5 things I want to improve and dedicate 1 day per week (Mon to Fri) to these. So for example my Monday is all about planning, I review all the 4 steps and remind myself what exactly needs to be done. I let my head rest on all other days and just focus on planning on Mondays. Tuesdays are all about doing something differently, breaking habits, anything from different exercise, new book, new route to work, saying something different etc. Wednesdays are all about looking after my body so I do perfect makeup, spend more time to do my hair, have home spa, do hair and face mask, relax, wear best clothes etc. It can be anything, and you don’t have to follow these daily, but at least try from time to time, any improvement always adds up to bigger results. Other interesting areas could be relationships, meditation, stretching, healthy eating, exercising. The best thing you can start all this any time of the year, it will just mean the main goal may be a bit smaller or move into 2019.
Above all, believe that step 1 is achievable, as Napoleon Hill said:
“There is a difference between WISHING for a thing and being READY to receive it. No one is ready for a thing, until he believes he can acquire it. The state of mind must be BELIEF, not mere hope or wish. Open-mindedness is essential for belief.”
I always thought the Eiffel Tower lights are on just forever, however just before the midnight various combinations of lights are put on and then the lights are switched off! Not sure if this is the case for the whole year but was there in most festive period – Christmas and this is what happened. Below is the video of the famous Paris tower just before midnight.
